Again, I got this from something he posted on the forums there before it got taken over by boppers.ītw, I think we might know each other from somewhere else I think he's known andy since before andy was ANDY and he's in the web business. I think his name is Ron? he does know Andy and he does like tennis. I wasn't trying to knock the site or anything (except the scary message boards, perhaps? lol) I was just bringing it up in response to West Coast Ace because I don't think in Andy's case he is using his website to control of information from his side, that's really all I was trying to say.Īs for the webmaster. All my point was is that it's not this super-professional thing where they will really be consciously determining when is the best time to "release" this information and that AR.com is simply LATE on putting stuff up. Perhaps they have to check first but sometimes they just rip off newswire or newspaper articles instead of writing something original. I think they can update articles and stuff. His agent, Donald Dell, said Roddick ended the affiliation because the company didn't offer enough in a new contract." Roddick, 22, signed a 5-year endorsement contract with Reebok in 2000. "BREAKING AWAY: Andy Roddick, the world's third-ranked men's tennis player, won't extend his endorsement contract with Reebok International Ltd., and will announce a new agreement with Devanlay SA's Lacoste clothing company, his agent said. Doesn't really matter, though, because his agent is already talking about it so by the time AR.com puts it up it won't be news anyway, but his team is obviously willing to talk if his agent will talk to the AP: Obviously there's a web company behind the design and maintenance of the server and that kind of thing but often, they don't get news til the rest of us do on yahoo news or whatever. but as far as I have ever been able to gather, the people who post the news up there day to day are the people that were absorbed by the old. It probably isn't just a coincidence.įee, I don't know. Haha that lacoste incident is pretty funny in hindsight. And hopefully it means the end of that god-awful trucker hat! Lacoste's stuff is nice and colorful so hopefully they'll bring that to whatever they do for him. Then it all turned into the same red, blue, black, gray, white. In 2002 and early 2003, Reebok gave him a lot of colorful stuff and it was nice. I just hope he doesn't look like such a toad on court anymore. that explains why they're late on "big news" as much as any other explanation. Keep in mind that AR.com is basically run by fans that had a fansite and were absorbed into AR.com. I mean there have been rumblings about Andy splitting from Reebok for MONTHS. I think part of it is also that with celebrities, people find out the information and post it and spread it as rumors without the person's consent, then once they make the decision for whatever reason to make it official they do so. Lacoste's clothes are just better, I hope they design something special for him.Īs for the control stuff, I don't know about that. Reebok's clothes pretty much sucked, but at least he was basically the only one on tour wearing it. "As our contract came to a close, and after carefully considering what is in the best interest of our business, Reebok has elected to not continue this partnership."Ī representative of Washington, D.C.-based SFX Sports Group Inc., which manages Roddick's career, couldn't be reached for comment. "Throughout our relationship, Andy has always been a loyal ambassador for the brand and has continuously proven himself to be a player capable of bringing intense energy and excitement back into the sport of tennis, with a talent and charisma to forever change the game," Reebok (NYSE: RBK), based in Canton, Mass., says in a statement. But effective May 1, Roddick no longer will endorse Reebok products. The Reebok-Roddick relationship dates back to May 2000. At Lacoste, Roddick would become "the centerpiece of its efforts to promote its brand" in the United States, according to the SportsBusiness Journal. Tennis sources say the multiyear deal would pay Roddick about $5 million annually, although other sources dispute those figures. In next week's issue, Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Journal reports Roddick could sign a major endorsement contract with Lacoste as early as next week. However, a deal with the Lacoste apparel brand may be in the wings. on Friday dropped tennis star Andy Roddick of Austin as a spokesman for its athletic shoes, apparel and accessories. Reebok ends endorsement deal with Roddick More news - Roddick's site says a new partnership will be announced next week, and the following is from the Austin Business Journal
